Treatments
Your first time in clinic
When you come to see us for the first time we take a lot of care to understand the nature of your complaint and the type of pain you are experiencing. We complete a patient case history to gain as much information as possible and consider all aspects that may be contributing to your condition.
We then carry out a detailed physical examination to establish your general health as well as the extent of your injury. This may include taking your blood pressure or testing your reflexes, as well as examining the quality and range of movement of your muscles and joints. We will not undertake treatment if we feel your condition does not lend itself to manual therapy. Instead we may refer you to your GP or even to hospital if we suspect you have fractured or broken something.
Treatment Methods
We use a variety of ‘hands on’ treatment methods combining physical therapy and osteopathic technique. Amongst others, these include remedial massage, joint manipulation and articulation techniques, stretching and strengthening exercises. We also provide exercise and rehabilitation advice to support you own recovery at home and reduce the likelihood of your condition returning
The Benefits
The primary benefit is relief at the site of pain or injury (the ‘tissue causing symptoms’). There are many other secondary benefits however; improved circulation, faster healing times and reduced scar tissue formation to name but a few. Also, by addressing the things that caused the problem in the first place (the ‘predisposing musculoskeletal factors’) there is less chance of symptoms reoccurring. This might include the correction of bio-mechanical function, posture, or muscle imbalance.
